Telling your story is one of the most powerful ways to forge connections with people

Angela Harrison

Angela, the brain behind Mindspace Training, brings a wealth of expertise in psychology and neuroscience to drive meaningful transformations in the field of mental health facilitation and training. Despite already having a psychology degree, her journey truly began after a medical discharge from the ADF in 2019 when she embarked on a mission to revolutionize mental health practices, drawing from her lived-experience and passion to make positive change in a hard-to-navigate system.

As a lived-experience facilitator and trainer, Angela’s work centres on fostering personal growth and tailored learning experiences for everyone in the room. Gone are the days of mundane ‘death-by-PowerPoint’ presentations – Angela’s unique perspective as both a service provider and a service user allows her to craft compelling content that not only resonates with participants, but is useful for practical application in personal and/or professional life.

With a diverse background encompassing peer and crisis support, one-on-one mental health support, and organisational workshops, Angela’s expertise lies in cultivating resilience and fostering psychological safety. Angela is an MHFA and RFA facilitator, as well as being a Certified Resilience Coach. Angela also operates a Canine Assisted Therapy (CAT) team with her Therapy Dog, Axel, creating a dynamic and unique learning environment.

Angela demonstrated extensive knowledge and professionalism in the course, I was impressed. She was passionate about the content but also engaging and added value through her lived experience. I have attend many many courses in my working life. And I would say that I was totally engaged and thoroughly enjoyed this course. This is probably the first course ever that I have not nodded off in, Thank you

Kate Airmid

Kate is our resident extrovert. Often described as high energy and outgoing however her story actually had a bit of a bumpy start. Growing up in and out of the foster care system and facing homelessness as a teen, Kate has had plenty of opportunity for what she likes to call “character development”!

Discovering Yoga was life-changing for Kate, and she soon found out it was a very effective way of soothing a brain that is wired for survival. Her Yoga practice led to the study of the science of Yoga, neuroscience, Ayurveda, tantra, nutrition, herbal medicine, and mental health.

Kate is a Qualified Mental Health Peer Worker and has worked within various peer and support roles over the last decade. She is a Trauma-aware Yoga Teacher Facilitator and Ayurveda Health Counsellor and also co-founded a charity called Frontline Yoga, all while helping bring the concept of trauma-aware yoga to Australia through policy and guidelines, as well as creating training manuals and content.

Kate is an MHFA, YMHFA, and SafeTalk facilitator, as well as a Certified Resilience Coach. All these experiences have shaped Kate’s strength-based and client-centered approach to holistic health.

Kate was absolutely brilliant. She was able to deliver meaningful and insightful lived experiences to add value to the course content. Easy to understand and her life experience in this area added a real honesty to the course. I feel extremely fortunate to have had Kate as a presenter for MHFA.

Thomas Pulleine

Thomas Pulleine

Tommy started his career in the Military, serving in the Australian Army as an Infantry soldier, spending 17 years in Service – deployed to Timor Leste, Solomon Islands and Iraq. His last posting was to the Defence Force correctional facility where he was the rehabilitation coordinator. This gave Tommy an insight into the significant issues facing veterans in the mental health space including his own. Tommy was medically discharged in 2015 for physical and mental health injuries.
Since leaving Defence, Tommy has had a passion for veteran mental health issues and has run several programs to support Veterans, as well as working in the peer-support space for Veterans. He is a MHFA, YMHFA and RFA facilitator, and also supports organisations with resilience and leadership workshops.
Tommy brings a relatable and charismatic personality to the team and has a passion for addressing low mental health literacy in male dominated industries.

Tommy had a very safe, approachable and engaging personality which made the presentation of the more heavy content a lot easier and more engaging to learn. By him sharing either personal or familiar experiences, myself and the other participants of the course felt a lot more comfortable, therefore more engaged in the sharing of experiences.

Certified Good Boy

Axel is what is known as a ‘foster-fail’, adopted by Angela after she couldn’t part ways while fostering him. Axel was picked up from the pound the day before he was due to be put down and given a second chance.

Years later, he repaid the favour and gave Angela her second chance. During her medical discharge, Angela’s mental health was at her lowest and Axel somehow knew exactly what to do, including therapy techniques like deep pressure therapy (who taught him that?!). Once Angela came out the other side, she got Axel trained as a Therapy Dog so he could share this joy with others’ too.

Axel comes along to some individual sessions, workshops, and accreditation trainings with participants’ consent. He also does some work within workplaces as a regular Therapy Dog visit for morale boosting and conversation starting.

Mental Health done Differently: Empowering People, Transforming Workplaces

At Mindspace Training our mission is to make a positive impact on individuals and workplaces by valuing lived-experience, promoting trauma-informed practices, providing accessible and affordable mental health education, all while empowering others to thrive.

We believe that everyone’s story holds tremendous value and power. By valuing lived-experience and fostering a culture of story sharing (leading by example of course), we create a safe and inclusive environment for individuals to be heard, validated, and supported. We understand that each person’s journey is unique, and through education, support, and a little time, we help individuals reclaim their narratives and find strength in their own stories.

We believe that knowledge is power, especially when it comes to mental health. Our commitment to mental health education ensures that individuals have access to the tools and resources they need to understand and manage their mental well-being effectively, as well as provide support to others around them. We believe that good mental health, and the skills to achieve it should be something accessible to all, regardless of wait-lists, income, or background. This also goes for small businesses and those with limited budgets. Through flexible, practical, and achievable strategies, we ensure that our services are within reach, empowering individuals to take proactive steps toward their well-being.

We are committed to creating engaging experiences that captivate and inspire. We understand that lasting change happens when individuals are actively engaged and have a good grasp on content.
